Here are some quick tips to help you track down difficult leaks. However, you’ll need to enlist a friend.
Step 1
Go up to the roof with a garden hose and start low. Spray water on the area right above where you think the leak is coming from inside.
Step 2
Your friend’s job is to watch for a leak inside and yell when he sees it.
Step 3
If the garden hose turns out to be useless, toss it aside and start lifting up shingles in the suspected area. Some signs you’re in the right spot include the following:
- Rotten wood
- Water stained felt paper
- Possibly mold
Remember to be careful. A wet roof can be slippery!
